Busy busy busy

It's definitely been a while between posts!

Since my Bare Island shoot, I have been quite busy. I've been to many locations around New South Wales, and have squeezed in a trip to Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.

I'm feeling little pressed for time, and won't be following my regular posting method of including map references, so I'll just provide links to each set I've uploaded to Flickr and a bit of a blurb for each location, including my favorite image from the shoot.

December 2010

The month has all but begun, but I've been out and about quite a bit so far this month... Read on.

Camp Cove - 2010.12.09

This location is definitely suited to sunset shoots, as it looks back into Sydney from South Head (top end of Watsons Bay). On this shoot, my good friend Denzil joined me.

Throughout the day, Sydney was shrouded in relatively heavy cloud, but just before sunset, the clouds parted and we were blessed with a magnificent sunset.

Newtown Graffiti Tour - 2010.12.04

Headed out with my wife, Eva after lunch with some friends, and on our way home, I didn't exactly have my camera out with me, but my iPhone 4 sufficed, and here are the results.

Turimetta Beach - 2010.12.04

This was a pretty special shoot, the last time I shot here with my friend James, we arrived a little late, and didn't quite get the results I was after. This time round, I had my new lens (Sigma 17-50 F2.8 EX DC OS), of which has proved well worth the money.

At this shoot, my wife Eva, Pauline (from Hobart), Trevor, and James joined me, and all were not disappointed.

Sydney Park - 2010.12.02

After a particularly crazy day in the office, I needed some time to myself to gather my thoughts, and relieve the stress built up from the day. Rather than jumping in the car and racing off to a spot, I grabbed my kit and wandered across the road into Sydney Park, which is fast becoming a great place to grab the camera for a quick shoot.

Brick works

This shoot was predominantly low light, and there was very little going on with the sunset, but I managed some good results.

November 2010

November has been a particularly busy month, heading out as often as I could.

I bought a new lens (Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS) while I was in Hong Kong last month, and am beginning to get some good results from it. The old kit 18-55mm lens has well and truly retired!

This month I really hit the road, and got out as often as I could.

Malabar Pool - 2010.11.27

I'd never shot here before, but was inspired by a photo I saw from one of my Flickr contacts; Jeff, and just had to head out and see what it was like. Eva joined me for this shoot, and we were rewarded with a pretty good sunrise.

Sydney Park Sunset - 2010.11.21

After a long day helping with Eva's birthday party, and dinner out with Dave and Cc, we were heading back, and noticed the cloud formations, and gabbed our kit and wandered across the road into Sydney Park.

We were definitely blessed with some good light, but looking back now, nearly a month later, the shots aren't as good as some of my later images.

Coogee - 2010.11.20

This was my first trip to Coogee, but definitely won't be my last. Sunrise wasn't that spectacular, but as the morning woke up, it was definitely an amazing spot.

Dave had also lent me his Cokin filters to use a couple of weeks prior, and was learning loads as I went. This has definitely whetted my appetite to start using filters for my landscape stuff.

Lightning, Sydney - 2010.11.08

We had an amazing lightning show, and managed to only get two good shots, definitely a lot of trial and error, and loads learnt.

Mahon Pool, North Maroubra - 2010.11.07

This was my second visit to Mahon pool, the first was back in the middle of winter, but this time I was armed with the new lens, new tripod, and Dave had lent me his Cokin filteres to play with. Most of the colour balances are wrong, with most of the images appearing to be warmer than they should have been.

This was my first real hit out with the new lens since I got back from Hong Kong, I'm more than happy with it.

.: start here...

Welcome to my new blog.

Here I'm going to try and post frequently about my photography.

I've had my current camera for nearly 12 months now, but have only recently started to take it seriously, and am finding myself out and about at various locations around Sydney, learning with every trip out.

I'm reasonably new to this, and my kit currently contains;

Camera: Canon EOS 500D (Digital Rebel T1i / Kiss X3 Digital)
Lens':
Filters: Cokin screw in Circular Polarizer
Canon RS60-E3 cable release

I also have an Canon IXUS 70 which gets rolled out occasionally, but is pretty much now retired.

I'm going to retrospectively post till I'm able to catch up to the present day. I post all of my photos to flickr.

.: bare island jetty - night shoot

Location: Bare Island, La Perouse
Date: 2010.07.30

After finishing work early, I quickly headed home, grabbed my kit and headed down to La Perouse.

In the failing light, I decided to pull my torch out, not only to try and find my way around the rocks, but to try some light painting. Alas I wasn't completely happy with the results in colour, but once converted to black & white images, they really began to shine!

I headed out pre-dawn to the Homebush bay ship wrecks. I found this site incredibly challenging, shooting angles were limited, but, I managed to get some good shots, and my favorite from the morning was the SS Ayrfield Wreck.

This morning Eva, myself and another friend, Trev headed out to Manhon Pool, North Maroubra for a pre-dawn shoot. This site was a challenge as the waves were really rolling in as day broke, I found it hard to find a good spot to get a good location, as there is a

and often found myself up to my ankles in water!

All in all a great spot, and will definitely head back in Summer.
